I had to send my SSN and driver’s license number over email to a real estate agent for a credit check, since I am trying to rent a place across the country.

I cannot go there in person, and sending it through regular mail would cause unnecessary delays. I know there’s no use crying over spilled milk, but I can’t help but feel very uneasy about it. I know that the real estate agent is legit, belonging to an accredited real estate agency. I sent my information to HIM and only him. I am pretty sure that he himself will not compromise that information, but is there any way that others could get this info– since it traveled through webspace? I don’t really understand how email technically works, so I feel extra insecure about what I just did… Do you think this was okay? Opinions? Thanks.
